It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
Have a basic understanding of the industry and the relevant legislation, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a vehicle marshal
Have knowledge knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular vehicle to be guided
Have a good understanding of signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for vehicle marshal duties
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas
Set up exclusion zone for unloading
Guide vehicle in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and "blind areas" safely and efficiently
Environmental considerations
Carry out all end of shift and shut down and parking procedures
Explain the factors that help maintain a safe working environment in the construction industry, and their responsibilities as a plant and vehicle marshaller
Identify the roles and responsibilities of the plant and vehicle marshaller
Identify and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for plant and vehicle marshaller use
Interpret the given information relating to the work and resources when controlling plant and vehicular movement on construction sites
Explain actions required for emergency procedures
Set up a restricted zone for loading and unloading
Identify requirements for the type of vehicle/plant to be guided

Guide vehicle and plant in a forward and reverse direction including restricted spaces and "blind areas" safely and efficiently
Direct and guide the movement of vehicles and plant to several types of location using different methods of communication

Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular machine to be used
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer's and legislative requirements
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for plant mover use
Prepare machinery for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
Storage and transport of machinery attachments
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
